31 Mar HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR FIRST MOTORBIKE
In this article I will give few general suggestions based on my experience on how to choose your first motorbike!!!!!!!!!!! I wish it will give some help to cut out few doubts !
Let’s start then!
👉FIRST STEP: Identify YOUR NEEDS 🧐
ASK YOURSELF : WHAT do I WANT to do ? WHERE do I WANT to go?
Are you gonna go to work and/or short rides in the weekend?
Or do you want to go for longer rides?
Maybe a little off road can suite your curiosity?
Do you want to travel? Maybe visit other countries?
Just try to picture yourself, what does put a smile on your face? What makes your heart beating faster ? What makes you feel excited?
👉SECOND: Discover WHICH TYPE respond the best to your needs 🤩
Check out this article I found googling around images.
It give a clear , short , overview of the main types of motorbikes on the market and their best use.

👇 my suggestions 👇
The choice is absolutely all yours. Here I am only going to share my experience, whishing this eventually help you.
- My personal opinion and advice, as a beginner I would choose one among the 3 I have circled in the foto
RETRO BIKES (the scratch specifically refers to the so called SCRAMBLERS) , DUAL SPORT, NAKED
Considering their characteristics, I believe this three types can make learning and riding very pleasant and enjoyable.
- Describing the use of each type of motorcycle it is good as it is good to know its proper use.
That said, I want here to open a parenthesis and point out that there are less limits than the ones imposed by categorizing. Therefor it’s up to you pushing some limits!
(find a balance in between freedom and being careful -> do not destroy your bike 🙏).
For example I had a street naked bike and I went for a light and short off road sometimes.
As the matter of fact it is perfectly fine!
let’s get back on track and go forward
👉THIRD: SMALL SIZE – you don’t need to go fast to get far!😎
Look at this! 👇
Supposing you do not have limitations due to the driving license level and you being free of choosing whatever size, my suggestion still be to start small. And here I will explain why.
Anyway, just to know, by small I mean from 650cc DOWN.
SPEED AND POWER
Firstly because when you start you will not have very much of control and going fast when you do not have control IT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA ! + the more powerful the motorbike will be and the more troubles you will have to adjust your sensitiveness for gas control and this go on the top of all the other things you already will have to get use to, before everything will come natural.
Having a super fast and powerful bike will not help you neither to learn or fall in love with riding.
More likely will lead you to quit. Yes. Quit.
Practicing low speed is important to the learning process .
Later you will apply your skills to speed, which will come naturally as you are progressing with your skills.
Maybe going slow does not sound very cool, but what is really COOL is practice a lot and learn, because riding can be very dangerous.
WHEIGHT
Secondly The lighter weight is much more convenient in carrying out off maneuvers and possibly lifting the motorcycle from the ground.
Because YOU ARE PROBABLY GOING TO DROP THE BIKE, which is totally fine !
Given that, wouldn’t be a bad idea to protect the engine part by buying and install the so called frame sliders, which are small and simple, but very effective.
Conclusion -> GIVE YOURSELF SOME TIME AND you will know when to upgrade!!!!
👉FOURTH: MONEY 💰🤐
Which is YOUR BUDGET ?
To stay in touch with reality one more sure thing to consider is your budget.
Well the money you can spend is defenitely an important aspect to consider.
If you have all the money you want then good for you, you have total freedom!!! 🎉
But even if you have a low budget, do not let that stop you from having your beloved motorbike !!!!!
There are still many and good second hand options.
Set the filters:
Firstly. You now know the type you want
Secondly. You know your budget
Thirdly. Set maximum of 30.000 , even better if no more than 20.000 km on the bike already
And check out what’s there waiting for you❣️
ps. Do not get too much stressed, you can change it! 🙂
👉 FIFTH: TRY IT IN PERSON AND TRUST YOUR GUTS!😉
Last but not least.
Look up for a sales point and go to see it in person.
Sit on the bike!
And trust your guts!!!!
Which means …
Do you feel comfortable?
Is it the size comfortable for you? Is it the seat comfortable ?
I swear a sport bike was totally out of my mind + I didn’t like it
I was more for a retro kind of bike
But OMG 😱 when I sat on that bike, it JUST FELT PERFECT TO ME!
So BE OPEN AND FEEL IT + TRUST YOURSELF
👉CONCLUSION: I THINK YOU ARE NOW READY TO CHOOSE AND BUY YOUR MOTORBIKE!!!!!!🥳
Once you’ve got to know the type and size, you also know how to choose your new motorbike !!!
Are you ready to drive home your new baby ?????
What are you doing still here?
Go for it!
And Practice practice practice practice practice practice!!!!!!!!!!
I hadn’t other vehicles, so I actually used my two wheels to get everywhere and do almost everything.
(You’ll be surprised about how many things you can carry on your bike with the simple use elastics !!!!!!!! )
Beside that I also immediately went for a travel
MY SMALL CB500F HAVE ACCOMPANIED ME IN MY FIRST TWO SOLO TRAVELS ❣️
FIRST 3000 KM FROM ITALY TO PROVENCE AND BACK.
SECOND 9000KM ITALY TO PORTUGAL , THROUGH SOUTH SPAIN, AND BACK.
FUNNY THING Riders and moto travelers think and talk in terms of kilometers.
I did not get it when my teachers were asking me EACH TIME how many kilometers I already made on the road.……I mean……. I did not have the licence yet and mostly sounded more as a meaningless obsession !!! 🙂
Later on I understood !! 😉
Kilometers=practice=experience=FALLINLOVE
+ feeling proud of your kilometers of experience 🤩
